Mid-Temperature stoneware glazes are considered to be any glaze that matures in the range of 2124° F (cone 4) to 2262° F (cone 7). When used on clay bodies that mature (vitrify) at the same temperature range, these glazes create an integrated body-glaze layer. This tight bonding between glaze and clay is the main reason stoneware is so much more desirable for the production of tableware.
Due to the high temperatures involved, stoneware glazes fired in electric kilns traditionally had a limited color pallet. Today however, new breakthroughs in chemistry have opened up a much wider selection of colors and textures in commercially available glazes.
Cone 4 to 6 glazes are best when used on clay bodies that mature at the same temperatures. If cone 10 clays are used, remember the clay will not be totally mature and could cause glaze fit issues.
NOTE TO TABLEWARE PRODUCERS All finished dinnerware products must be tested and approved as food safe by a certified laboratory due to possible variations in firing temperatures and possible contamination.

ARMADILLO CONE 5 BULK GLAZES: Our own proven recipes of cone 5 glazes ranging from tintable transparent and white base glazes to high gloss colored glazes.
